second runway malaga airport

The civil works of the second runway at Malaga Airport will be completed in the coming days. Thus, for its operation now are remaining the works of accompaniment (calibration, signaling and safety work) and the required test period.

With the completion of this infrastructure Malaga Airport enters the elite club of Spanish airports equipped with more than one runway along with Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Gran Canaria. The new runway will double the number of operations which will move from the current 37 an hour to 72. In other words, the airport will be able to serve more than 9,500 passengers in one hour thanks to performances like the second runway and the new terminal 3.

The second runway will be 2,750 meters long for landing (3,090 meters with the added space for takeoff). For this tourist season is expected an increase of 10% in passenger numbers at Malaga airport. This year could reach 13 million passengers coming to the Costa del Sol, one million more than last year.

These dimensions are particularly important since they will allow arriving and departing larger Jumbo aircrafts from Malaga, such as the Boeing 747, and the latest Airbus generation.

According to schedule, until September will be made the first security tests through flight tests to calibrate the installed air navigation systems, and which provide additional information to the aircraft, help in the approach phase and on landing in bad weather. After the summer and until January 2012 will develop additional tests for the design of maneuvers for departure and arrival.
