Ground staff at 19 airports in Spain will go on strike during the Easter weekend. Negotiations between unions and handling companies have failed. Malaga Airport is also affected.
Strike at Malaga Airport
After mediation talks between the unions and the ground handling company Groundforce failed to produce an agreement, ground staff at the airport will stage several strikes around Easter.
- Specifically, this will affect check-in, baggage handling, refuelling and other ground services.
- The strikes will begin on Friday, March 27, and will initially continue indefinitely on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, three times a day: from 5:00 to 7:00 am, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, and from 10:00 pm to midnight.
- In addition to the Groundforce strikes, there are also the already announced work stoppages at the Menzies handling group. Employees at Malaga Airport will walk off the job for 24 hours each day on March 28 and 29, as well as on April 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Airlines that may be affected include EasyJet, Norwegian, Transavia, WizzAir, Air Europa, Lufthansa and British Airways.
Passengers are advised to stay informed by contacting their airline regularly. Flight cancellations and delays cannot be ruled out. Boarding may experience very long waiting times because ground staff are also deployed at the gates and jet bridges.
