Malaga city has surpassed Torremolinos, symbol of tourism in the Costa del Sol, in the number of tourists from January to October 2010 compared with the same information of last year.
According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), after Malaga, the biggest increase of tourists in the province was recorded in Nerja, with 10.2 percent, while in Fuengirola, the number of visitors increased during this period in just over three percent.
The biggest decline in this period has been in Benalmádena, with a 25.9 percent less visitors. Marbella is located in these ten months in the third most visited place in Malaga, with a 1.3 percent less.
In October, Malaga City has recorded 24.8 percent of stays, situated as the second Spanish city after Barcelona. After Malaga are situated the other Andalusian cities of Granada, Seville and Cordoba.
Accumulated from January to October the city of Malaga has increased stays in 14,5 percent, with a total of 1,391,016 overnight stays. However, the municipality with most registered visitors in the province has been Torremolinos, with 3.5 million (-7.8 percent), Benalmádena, with 2.1 million (-11.9 percent), Marbella, with more than two million (+4 percent), Fuengirola, with 1.6 million overnight stays (-6.1 percent) and, finally, Nerja, with 680,962 (+4.7 percent).
