Royal Air Maroc has announced an ambitious expansion between Morocco and Spain. The Moroccan airline will add new routes from Tangier and Nador with up to 80 weekly flights, with Malaga and the Costa del Sol leading the way.
Expanding Network
This year the airline is expanding its network with new regular routes connecting northern Morocco with several Spanish cities, in addition to strengthening its operations from Casablanca.
Malaga is among the Spanish cities included in the program, which aims to boost both tourism and service for the Moroccan community. Other Spanish cities with frequent flights to Morocco include Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, Alicante, Las Palmas and Tenerife.
Regular flights to the Costa del Sol
The increase in flights responds to the rise in traffic between Morocco and Spain, where the airline carried nearly 480,000 passengers in 2025.
Royal Air Maroc operates regular flights from Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport, primarily connecting to Casablanca, as well as Tangier and Nador, operating from Terminal 3.
- From Tetouan, the airline will operate three new direct flights to Malaga on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
- From Tangier, direct flights to Malaga will be starting on July 6, on Mondays and Fridays.
Aircraft & Flight times
Royal Air Maroc primarily operates the route between Casablanca and Malaga using narrow-body aircraft such as the Boeing 737-800, the Boeing 737 MAX 8, and occasionally, aircraft from the Airbus A320 family.
- The flight time from Malaga to Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- Flights often depart in the late afternoon, such as 4:45 pm or 5:15 pm, with arrival in Malaga at 6 pm or 7:30 pm.
The airline has confirmed that, if demand in Spain continues to grow, they will operate larger aircraft on routes such as Malaga. From the current fleet of 62 aircraft, it plans to reach 72 in 2026 with the addition of new B-787-9 Dreamliner and B-737 MAX aircraft.

As you may know, there are currently no direct flights between Malaga and New York, except during the summer.
This means you’ll always have to make a connection at a hub airport like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Madrid… or Casablanca!
It could be an interesting and different idea if you want to immerse yourself in Moroccan culture for a few hours and perhaps buy a special souvenir in the shops at Casablanca airport.
On the New York-Malaga route, you have a 2-hour layover in Casablanca.
There’s also the option of flying between Miami and Malaga, with a stopover in Casablanca. In this case, the layover time is 5 hours and 30 minutes. Enough time to grab a taxi and have a coffee or a green mint tea in a bazaar if you’re feeling adventurous.

What are the new routes for Royal Air Maroc 2026?
Royal Air Maroc is adding over 10 new international routes from its Casablanca hub to destinations across Europe, Africa and the Americas. Key new additions include direct flights to Saint Petersburg (Jan 2026), Bilbao, Alicante, Tripoli, Pointe‑Noire, Beirut (April 2026), Palma de Mallorca, Verona and Los Angeles (June 2026).
Additionally, there will be increased frequencies on long-haul routes to São Paulo, Miami, Washington and Dubai.
