SWISS plans to increase capacity during the summer months on two popular routes to Spain, specifically to Malaga on the sunny Costa del Sol, and to Alicante.
Furthermore, you can expect a special kind of luxury on these routes to the sun; find out more below!
Summer flights from Zurich to Malaga on the SWISS Airbus A340

SWISS will deploy the Airbus A340-300 on selected short-haul flights between Zurich and Malaga in summer 2026.
Normally, Airbus A220 and A320 family aircraft, as well as Embraer aircraft, are used on this route.
However, from April 4, 2026, until further notice, an Airbus A340 will fly every Saturday between Zurich and Malaga.
What is special about this aircraft
So, what’s so special about this aircraft type?
This is actually a long-haul aircraft. In Asia, long-haul aircraft are regularly used on short-haul routes. In Europe, this is much less common and usually only occurs to temporarily increase capacity on popular routes during peak season.
This gives SWISS passengers traveling to Malaga the opportunity to enjoy the approximately 3-hour flight to the sun with the highest comfort of a long-haul flight.
Seating options

In total, there are eight seats in First Class, 42 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy Class and 144 in Economy Class on board.

Even for economy class passengers, seating comfort is improved. Business class passengers benefit the most, however. On the nearly 3-hour flights, lie-flat seats familiar from long-haul flights are available. And for an additional fee, seats in the first-class cabin can even be selected.
