The controversial low-cost carrier Ryanair, which has caused the Spanish Ministry of Development to request the strengthening of European legislation on aviation security after starring at least two emergency landings at Spanish airports and several technical incidents so far this month, has established itself as the airline which moves most passengers in the airport Malaga-Costa del Sol.
The latest data from Aena (Spanish Airports and Air Navigation) observe how the airplanes of this company continue to grow in number of passengers, closing the first eight months of the year with 2,056,354 passengers, representing an increase of 7.5% over the same period last year.
Ryanair’s weight is becoming more significant in the airport of the Costa del Sol through which transited in the first eight months more than 8.7 million people. This means that nearly 23 of every 100 users arriving or leaving the airport do so in aircrafts bearing the logo of Ryanair.
The airport in Malaga is the third, after Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona, which receives more travellers using low cost flights and is ahead of Alicante and Madrid-Barajas.
