Fuengirola

As a major tourist centre an Andalusia, Fuengirola has all the facilities holidaymakers have come to expect as well as miles of broad beaches and some unique historical sites.

At the beginning Fuengirola was just a small fishing town, but in the last 50 years it has experienced a huge change.

Nowadays Fuengirola is one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the Costa del Sol. Thanks to its diversity, this city has become a very popular holidays resort and also a dream place to live.

Well connected with the airport

Fuengirola is very well connected to both Malaga airport and the capital Malaga.

From the airport by car it takes approximately 20 minutes (23 km) along the A-7 motorway to reach this popular municipality.

The town is also very well served by the C-1 commuter train line.

There are trains every 20 minutes connecting Fuengirola with Benalmadena, Torremolinos, the Plaza Mayor shopping centre, the airport, Malaga Maria Zambrano main station and the city centre.

The journey time between the airport and Fuengirola is about 35 minutes.

Family oriented holiday destination

The tourism offer of the city is quite family oriented. Of course, as in all resorts along the Costa del Sol, there is no lack of bars and there is also a very lively night life.

Yet, if you are looking for a nice place for family holidays, Fuengirola could be one place of your choice (along with Benalmádena).

Here are some of the activities you can enjoy with family

Next to the river Fuengirola there is a wonderful River Park for walking, jogging, ping pong, children’s castles and you can rent boats and pedal boats.

There is also a zip line across the river as well as a Skatepark next to the Miramar shopping centre. Inside Miramar shopping centre there are two Karting circuits installed on the roof.

About 200 metres from the River Park in the direction towards the beach there is a children’s playground with a fun Pirate Ship, small slides and other attractions for the little ones. The area is landscaped and there is a large cafeteria with a terrace.

Especially if you are travelling with children, the Biopark Zoo is another place to visit in Fuengirola. It is located right in the centre of town.

With a different concept of zoo-immersion, you will be able to see many animals from different ecosystems from all over the world. Biopark Fuengirola also offers other activities, guided tours, storytelling, yinkanas and workshops.

In summer a floating Costa Water Park is set up just a few metres from the shore, equipped with bouncy castles, slides, platforms and other attractions, so it’s impossible to get bored in the water.

If you want more water fun, you can visit the Aquapark Aquamijas, with many water attractions for all ages, as well as restaurants and bars for the whole family to enjoy.

Arab castle Sohail & Marenostrum Music Festival

The Arab castle of Sohail, built in the XII century, has been brought from near-ruin to magnificent splendour and is a major attraction in its own right.

You can not only take a stroll up the hill 50 metres from the sea. The castle can be visited and from there you have a very good view of the coast.

Both the interior of the Sohail castle and its park host a large number of events throughout the year.

The most outstanding event during the long summer months are the open-air music festivals that take place from May to September with national and international artists, under the name Marenostrum Fuengirola.

Surely there will be a concert you would love to see.

More things to do & see in Fuengirola

• The Teatro Salón Varietés offers musicals, comedies, dramas etc. in English.

• At the Finca del Secretario you can see a Roman archaeological site.

• If you travel with your dog you will love to know that Fuengirola has a dog-friendly beach, situated south of the Playa del Castillo beach.

• The Fuengirola Fairground also deserves a special mention. In this venue located in the centre of the town, many events take place throughout the year.

The most important ones are

• International Peoples Fair end of April and beginning of May
• Rosario Fair beginning of October

The site also hosts two Street Markets: on Tuesdays, with all kinds of items, fruit, vegetables, crafts and clothing. And on Saturdays you’ll find antiques and second-hand goods.

Fuengirola also has a Marina. Although we can’t mention it as one of the most beautiful along the coast, it also has some bars and above all there are interesting nautical offers such as boat trips to see dolphins, just to mention a few.

In addition, the town has two cinemas. Both cinemas offer movies in original version with Spanish subtitles.

Multicines Alfil is in the city centre next to Biopark  and has it´s own public parking.
