Cancelled Lufthansa flights

The strike of Lufthansa ground staff on Monday caused the cancellation of 22 flights the airline usually operates between Madrid Barajas and the German of Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Munich and Frankfurt.

Lufthansa, Germany’s largest airline, has cancelled on Monday 1,688 of 1,720 flights that were scheduled to take off in the country, more than 99%.

The labour protest means multimillion losses for the airline and generates problems for thousands of passengers at major airports in the country, local media predicted today.

Lufthansa expects to take off only 20 of the 1,650 domestic and European flights (mainly those which depart from the airport Berlin), and only 12 of the 70 originally scheduled transcontinental flights.

The Lufthansa ground staff, consisting of some 33,000 employees, endorsed on 21 March, the first warning strike of seven hours, which forced the cancellation of about 700 flights.
