International airlines have literally taken off at Malaga airport in the first half of the year. The report released yesterday by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade shows clear that the low cost companies at the airport have experienced the most pronounced growth. Specifically, the low cost airlines have gained almost 15% of passengers at the airport Malaga-Costa del Sol.
The ‘low cost’ have moved in this terminal 1.8 million passengers until June, representing 11% of the traffic in Spain and a figure that ranks as the third busiest airport facility with low cost in the country. Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona precede Malaga-Costa del Sol.
The Community of Andalusia is the fourth largest in Spain regarding low-cost air movements, with 2.3 million passengers, preceded by Catalonia, the Balearic and Canary Islands.
Three airlines, Ryanair, Easyjet and Air Berlin, have made more than half of all international arrivals in cheap flights. These three companies also lead the traffic at Malaga airport.
In terms of markets, the UK, Germany and Italy were the source of six out of ten international low-cost arrivals.
