Jet2.com changes Egypt for Spain and Portugal
Jet2.com has suspended services to the Red Sea because of the “turbulent episodes in Egypt” and has added more than 70,000 seats to five destinations in Spain and one in Portugal, with departures from four of its eight operational bases in northern England and Scotland.
The airline announced that “given the current state of social and political upheaval in Egypt, Jet2.com suspends operations to Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada from March 1.”
Jet2.com added 4,000 extra seats a week in some of the routes to Spain and Portugal, due to the growing interest of tourists from the UK in these two markets. Among the destinations to which this extra capacity will be distributed are Alicante, Ibiza, Malaga, Mallorca, Tenerife and Faro.
“While in the Red Sea resorts are currently not affected by the events, safety and comfort of our guests is our top priority and as such we do not want them to face the stressful uncertainty about whether their holiday will go ahead as they had planned.”
The company emphasizes that its customers will automatically receive a full refund of the amount of flight or holidays, and a discount on a new reservation.
From its base in Manchester, Jet2.com adds additional flights to Alicante and Mallorca, operating two daily flights on Fridays and Sundays, an additional flight to Tenerife on Saturday, and increases the seats to Ibiza and Malaga airport.
From Leeds Bradford, the airline increases flights to Tenerife on Thursday, raising the frequency to four times a week; and an additional service to Murcia on Sunday.
From the Scottish Airport Glasgow, the company has increased its operations to Mallorca up to six frequencies a week.
And from Newcastle, Jet2.com has increased two flights on the route to Alicante on Thursday and Sunday, raising the frequency to six times a week, and has increased the number of seats to Malaga.
